Drag Racers Raise Money For Cancer
The second annual Pinks With a Twist Drag Race over the weekend raised just over $11000 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
On Sunday afternoon, two grizzled veterans faced each other in the final of the Pinks Division I class for the $1600 first prize money. When the numbers flashed on the big scoreboards, the 1967 Camaro of Saint John, New Brunswick’s Ray Roach defeated the big Chrysler powered dragster of Sussex, New Brunswick’s Jim Green. Joey Carroll from Eastern Passage, NS captured third place with a win over Charlottetown’s Travis Livingstone.
The Pinks Division II (for cars slower than 11 seconds) came down to an all-western PEI battle. In that final Tyne Valley’s Ernest Newcombe and his 1966 Plymouth Valiant defeated Wellington’s young Brett Ramsay and his 1970 Camaro. Lisa Carroll from Sherbrooke, NS drove her Chevy powered 1976 Honda Civic to third place honours over the 1977 GMC pick-up of Peter Rogers from Hilden, NS.
In the Bracket For Points division, Sam Ward from Belmont, NS defeated Summerside’s Hal Schurman for first place, while Shane Bolger from Charlottetown was third.
Rylie Green from Berwick, NB again rose to the top of the Junior Dragster Division by defeating Irvin Crews from Grand Bay-Westfield, NB in their final. Benjamin Gallant from Miscouche was third.
The two Duck Races of the day were captured by Charlottetown’s Colin Newman who defeated Moncton’s Mike Stone in their final and Dillon Bolger from Charlottetown who won the Junior Duck Race by edging out Daniel Collister from Mayfield.
In Saturday’s Electronic Gamblers’ Race, Joey Carroll’s 1989 Mustang defeated the 2006 Kawasaki of Shane Bolger from Charlottetown.
Wellington’s Brett Ramsay captured the Non-Electronic Division with a final round win over Charlottetown’s Irwin Mossman.
Rylie Green again won the Junior Division when he defeated Daniel Collister.
Next action at Raceway Park is the Annual Sport Compact Event on August 23-25. Meanwhile Tuesday Night Street Drags continue with Wednesday and Thursday being rain dates.
