MacLean Wins Super Pro
Glenn MacLean from Hunter River, PEI won the prestigious Super Pro Division of the ADRA and Raceway Park Points Event on Sunday afternoon at Raceway Park with a great final round victory over Sussex, New Brunswick’s Kandy Mitton. In the semi-final, Mitton had eliminated the points leader, Mary Roach from Saint John, NB. However, in the final against MacLean, Mitton had a slightly poorer reaction time, pushed a little too hard, and broke out at the finish line to hand the victory to MacLean.
Although the weekend weather forecasts were not favorable, almost 100 racers arrived ready to race, and race they did. On Saturday, in the Maritime Stock/ Super Stock Series, number one qualifier, Kelly MacKay from Dartmouth, NS defeated Rothesay, New Brunswick’s Mark Howes in the final pairing. Jeremy Keans from Liverpool, NS was third in the class.
Also on Saturday, Josh Goodwin from Wellington, PEI defeated the always tough Jason MacNeil from Stellarton, NS in the Electronic Gamblers’ Race final and Glenn MacLean was third. In the Non-Electronic Gambler’s Race, another Wellington Racer, Chad Ramsay, edged out the 1981 Mercury Capri of John Croft from Blockhouse, NS. Robert Gallant from St. Nicholas, PEI was third.
In the Junior Dragster category on Saturday, Hunter River’s Dawson Toombs defeated Bella Scott from Marshfield, PEI in the class final. Emily MacDonald from Gardiner Mines, NS was third.
The Pro Bracket final on Sunday was an extremely close race. Jeremy Keans from Liverpool, NS had a .510 reaction time and ran an 11.23 elapsed time on a 11.22 dial-in to defeat Jack Keirstead from Onslow Mountain, NS who had an even better reaction time of .504 but who ran 11.70 on a dial-in of 11.68. Tyne Valley’s Ernest Newcombe defeated Summerside’s Clayton Howatt for third in the class.
Mike O’Neill from Moncton, NB was the winner of the Bike/Sled class when he drove his big Suzuki to a final round win over the 2001 Skidoo of Summerside’s Billy Joe Casey. Winsloe’s Glenn Frizzell finished third in the class.
Mike Ingram from Middle Sackville, NS drove his 1993 Camaro to victory in the Sportsman Class by defeating Letang, New Brunswick’s Carl Leeman and his 1979 Camaro in the division final. Richard Leger from Shediac, NB was third.
In the Junior Dragster Division, Logan Power from Sackville, NS edged Braxton Stafford from Blackville, NB in the final pairing and Berwick, New Brunswick’s Rylie Green defeated Charlottetown’s Dillon Bolger for third place.
In the Junior Duck Race for first round losers, Emily MacDonald edged out Elmsdale, Nova Scotia’s Dawson Miller for that honour.
In the Duck Race for all other classes, Perk Perkins from Bradenton, Florida drove his 1967 Chevy II to victory over the very fast 1995 Corvette of Hunter River’s Brian Toombs.
Next action at the local drag strip will be the Pinks With A Twist Race for Cancer on July 27and 28. Meanwhile Tuesday night Street Drags continue with Wednesday or Thursday as rain dates.
