RAMSAY DOMINATES DRAG RACE
Rain hampers Sunday events

Chad Ramsay from Wellington, PEI earned “King of the Hill” honours on Saturday at Raceway Park.

Although rain was falling in many Island communities, only a couple of short showers interrupted Saturday’s racing.
The Pro Tree Tour, the  brain-child of Berny Corscadden, stopped in Oyster Bed Bridge on Saturday. Running the 1/8 mile IHRA time breaks, three classes were qualified and eliminations began.

In the Hot Rod division, for cars running on a 7.00 second index, Ramsay and his  1970 Chevy Camaro got by Corscadden’s 1974 Datsun 280Z in their final.

Vito Bosca from Bathurst, NB defeated Ray Bourque from Memramcook, NB in the Super Rod Class for cars with a 6.40 second index.
In the Quick Rod Class (5.70 index), the two dragsters of Doug Forbes from Douglas, NB and Trevor Cowie from Doaktown, NB met in the final with Forbes emerging as the victor.

For the three-car King of the Hill showdown, Bosca’s  best package ( combination of reaction time and elapsed time against class index), got him the bye into the final. In the semi-final Ramsay bested the Forbes rail and then completed the victory by ousting Bosca to become Pro Tree’s Top Eliminator for the day.
Also on Saturday, Ricky Beal from Midgic, NB defeated Saint John’s Ray Roach in the final of the Electronic Division of the Gambler’s Race while Riverview, NB’s Ty Agnew got by Summerside’s Joey Veno in the Non-Electronic section.

Rylie Green from Berwick, NB returned to form with a new car to win the Junior Dragster class with a final round victory over Cornwall’s Jocelyne Campbell.

On Sunday the weather did not cooperate as well with several delays for wet track conditions. Between showers and before the program was finally scrapped around six o’clock, enough rounds were run to get the Pro Bracket division down to a final between Colin Newman from Charlottetown and Tyne Valley’s Ernest Newcombe. Third place in the class would have been settled between Wellington’s Michael Poirier or Bloomfield’s Kevin Gallant.

Seven drivers were left in the Super Pro Division: Jason MacNeil from Stellarton, NS, Chris O’Neill from Fredericton, NB, Ray Bourque from Memramcook, NB, Glenn MacLean from Hunter River, Mario Van Wiechen from Charlottetown, Ray Roach from Saint John, NB, and Brian Toombs from Hunter River.

The Bike/Sled Class was down to a final between Charlottetown’s Shane Bolger and Joey MacInnis from Springvale while Kim Goodwin from Wellington and Debi Livingstone from Charlottetown had to run for third place.

Christine Leeman from Letang, NB and Richard Leger from Shediac, NB were set to decide  Sportsman Class honours while Christine’s husband, Carl, had garnered third in the division.

In the Junior Dragster division Logan Power from Sackville, NS and Briann Tooms from North Rustico were ready to face each other, with the winner advancing to meet Briann’s older brother, Dawson, for the division honours.

Next action at the local drag strip will be the combined ADRA and Raceway Park points’ event to be held September 1st and 2nd. Meanwhile Tuesday night street drags continue every Tuesday evening with Wednesday and Thursday being rain dates.
